Moscow welcomes Syrian opposition agreeing to participate in Geneva II conference

Moscow said it welcomed the decision of the National Coalition of Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces to participate in the Geneva II conference.

"Moscow firmly supported and supports the soonest possible cessation of violence and bloodshed in Syria and the transition to a peaceful political settlement. Everything that brings such a prospect closer through the calling of the international conference in Geneva with the participation of the Syrian government and representatives of the opposition delegation, the National Coalition included, can not be but welcomed," the Russian Foreign Ministry Information and Press Department said in a statement on Tuesday.

A meeting of the General Assembly of the National Coalition of Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces was held in Istanbul on November 9-11.

The meeting agenda included developing the National Coalition's approach regarding the Geneva II international conference on Syria. The statement that was passed declared that the National Coalition was ready to participate in the conference.
