Polonsky lawyer hopes to get info on date of businessman's extradition hearing on Tuesday

The Cambodian court still has not made a decision on the extradition to Russia of businessman Sergei Polonsky due to the national holidays in Cambodia.

"National holidays continue in the country. No one is working. Information on the court hearing will be made available tomorrow," Alexander Karabanov, a lawyer for the businessman, told Interfax on Monday.

One of the Moscow lawyers for Polonsky has now arrived in Cambodia, he said.

On November 11, it was reported that Polonsky has been detained in Cambodia and would be extradited to Russia. The Russian Prosecutor General's Office sent a request for the businessman's extradition to the Cambodian law enforcement agencies. The trial of the case involving Polonsky's extradition has been postponed many times.

The Russian Interior Ministry's investigative department presented an indictment against Polonsky in absentia on June 14 in a case dealing with fraud during the construction of a residential complex in Moscow. Polonsky is suspected of embezzling over 5.7 billion rubles from investors of the Kutuzov Mile residential complex, and over 80 individuals have been recognized as victims of the fraud scheme.

Moscow's Tverskoi Court later sanctioned Polonsky's arrest in absentia, and he was subsequently declared internationally wanted.
