Russian diplomats may meet with detained Uralkali CEO

Officials from the Russian embassy in Minsk may meet with Vladislav Baumgertner, general director of Uralkali, who is currently under arrest in Belarus, in the nearest future.

"We were informed that the meeting with Baumgertner, which was initially scheduled for November 15 and was postponed, may take place in the nearest future," Igor Karyagin, the head of the consular section of the Russian embassy in Minsk, told Interfax on Monday.

"An investigator called today and said the meeting should take place in the nearest future. The time has not been determined yet, but we can't rule out that it may take place today or tomorrow," Karyagin said.

According to earlier reports, citing Karyagin, Russian diplomats were expected to meet with Baumgertner on Friday, but the meeting was postponed on the Belarusian investigators' initiative.

Baumgertner was detained in Minsk on August 26. He is now under house arrest in a Minsk apartment.
