People with tickets for 2014 Olympics in Sochi to be able to easily get visas

A simplified procedure of issuing visas for foreign tourists coming to Russia for the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Sochi was introduced on December 1, 2014.

A simplified procedure of issuing visas for foreign tourists coming to Russia for the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Sochi was introduced on December 1, 2014.

Visa applications are processed via special "Olympic" windows in Russian consular offices around the world, the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee said in a statement.

It is possible to apply for visa outside the general queue and without confirmation of hotel accommodations. The visa application will be considered as quickly as possible.

When applying for Russian visas, foreign spectators should confirm that they indeed intend to attend sport events or Olympic ceremonies by presenting a ticket for the competitions or ceremonies or an electronic confirmation received from the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee or its official ticket agents or a fan's passport.

The Russian consular offices will consider a foreign spectator's application without initially tying him or her to a certain hotel, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

Special visa rules announced for Sochi Games

Starting with December 1, 2013, spectators of the Games will be issued tourist visas for up to one month (including same-day processing), based on copies of tourist confirmation letters (electronic or facsimile copies of confirmations of reception of the foreign tourist), subject to presenting of the ticket for Olympic events or electronic confirmation of purchase obtained from the Organizing Committee “Sochi 2014” or its official ticket agents abroad, or registration card.
