The Russian Federal Security Service has received the right to conduct operational search activities to fight information security threats faced by the country.

The corresponding federal law and explanatory note attached to it have been posted on the website of the legal information portal Garant.

According to the explanatory note, interstate information warfare have recently become more intensive, harmful software has been used as information weaponry, hacking groups are becoming increasingly active, and IT technologies are used in the commission of crimes.

The envisions the possibility of conducting operational search activities aimed at obtaining information on events or actions (or lack thereof) posing threats to the country's information security, and it gives the Federal Security Service the right to conduct such activities.
