Natalya Cherkesova, board chairman of JSC Rosbalt, has called the decision made by the Supreme Court, which has invalidated the decision to cancel Rosbalt's registration, a good signal to all media.
"It's a very good signal, which shows that you can defend your position in court," Cherkesova told Interfax on Wednesday.
"I really hope that the Supreme Court decision will be taken by other judicial bodies, Roskomnadzor, and the Prosecutor General's Office as a signal that the media should be treated legally based on the interests of society, not officials," Cherkesova said.
Cherkesova said Rosbalt continued working after the Moscow City Court issued its decision because the decision had not taken legal force.
"Rosbalt has kept its staff, no jobs were cut. Our agency has begun to be quoted more often," she said.
"We believes that the Supreme Court would try this case and issue a just ruling, which will mean that the supervisory bodies should apply new laws in a more balanced and careful way," she said.
Responding to a question as to whether Rosbalt will demand compensation for financial or reputation damage, Cherkesova said: "We should consult with lawyers about that."
The Russian Supreme Court earlier invalidated the decision to cancel the registration certificate of the information agency Rosbalt.
