Germany's decision to stop contacts with Russia between military agencies reduce to nothing the positive tendencies that emerged in the past few years, the Russian Defense Ministry said, adding that it believes Germany has made this decision "under pressure."

"Obviously, the infamous 'Atlantic solidarity' has caused our French and German partners to issue big statements on Russia," Russian Deputy Defense Minister Anatoly Antonov said, commenting on the recent statements made by Germany and France on the suspension of their military cooperation with the Russian Defense Ministry.

"Speaking about Russian-German cooperation, I would like to say that the defense ministries of Russia and Germany made serious efforts to develop our cooperation in the past few years. The approved plan of bilateral contacts for 2014 includes various events. They are all mutually profitable," he said.

"halting contacts and exchange of defense ministry delegations reduces to nothing the positive tendencies that emerged in the past few years, including the interaction on Afghanistan, the dialogue on the transparency of military activities, or military-technical cooperation. We regard the decisions made by Germany as unconstructive decisions that were made under pressure," Antonov said, adding that Russia will "operate in the basis of the current situation" when deciding on the prospects of further interaction.

"As to Russian-French cooperation, we made considerable effort to form a new level of confidence and cooperation in modern conditions in the past few years. Specifically, unprecedented joint air force and landing troops trainings were organized. We are hoping a new impetus will be given this year," he said.

"For this reason, we intend to strictly follow the approved plan of cooperation this year, if our French colleagues are interested in that," Antonov said.
