"Teams of 13 states have confirmed their participation in Tank Biathlon 2014. Teams of eleven tanks will be driving Russian tanks. Teams of six states will train at the 4th tank division base for six days in advance," he said.

Meanwhile, the tank crews of China and Kuwait will drive their own tanks, the general said.

Another eleven countries will send their observers to the event.

Russia's Uralvagonzavod and Spetsremont are modernizing 118 T-72 tanks within the framework of preparations for Tank Biathlon 2014, Petrov added.

"Russian enterprises are preparing hardware for the Russian team and the teams of foreign states," he said.

For instance, Uralvagonzavod is modernizing 31 T-72B3 tanks and Spetsremont is repairing 87 tanks, including 22 T-72B tanks and 65 T-72B1 tanks.

The foreign crews will arrive in Russia and start preparing for the championship on July 17. The final stage of the tank championship will take place on August 4-16.
