The State Duma on Friday passed during the third and final reading a governmental bill allowing foreigners to be hired to work as crewmembers on civil aircraft.

The new law changes parts of the Russian Air Code and the law "On the legal status of foreign nationals in Russia," regarding the possibility of foreign nationals serving as members of a civil aircraft crew, including as an aircraft commander on a commercial flight.

The law gives the government the power to establish a procedure for allowing a foreign national to fill the position of a crew commander on a commercial flight.

Candidates will be required to submit information from their country's law enforcement authorities, a medical certificate, their flight record, and confirm their knowledge of Russian in a necessary form in case of applying for a job on domestic flights.
