Another round of consultations on the South Stream pipeline between Russian and European Commission experts took place in Brussels on April 8, Russia's Permanent Representative to the European Union, Vladimir Chizhov, told reporters on Wednesday.
"We will see the results. In principle, I think that the significance of implementing the South Stream project has grown amid the Ukrainian crisis because we are hearing hints from the Kiev authorities, including Mr. Yatsenyuk, which could become real at any moment in regard to yet more attempts to disrupt the transit of Russian gas to the European Union," Chizhov said.
Besides, we hear many conversations regarding establishment of a reverse stream. But if to speak in simple, non-technological language, it is impossible to pump gas through the same pipeline in opposite directions at the same time. That is why the attempt to organize reverse flows, from Slovakia or Hungary to Ukraine, will mean that the stream will stop going from east to west. Thus, the stream to Europe will stop," the diplomat said.
