State Duma passes harsh resolution in response to anti-Russian resolution of PACE

Russia's State Duma said it did not see an opportunity to continue constructive participation in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) amid repressive restrictions against the Russian delegation's powers in the assembly.

Russia's State Duma said it did not see an opportunity to continue constructive participation in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) amid repressive restrictions against the Russian delegation's powers in the assembly.

The lower chamber passed the statement On the Anti-Russian Resolution of the PACE at a meeting on Friday.

"Deputies of the State Duma say that further constructive participation in PACE's work is impossible amid the repressive restrictions against the delegation of Russia's Federal Assembly. At that, budget funds allocated by Russia to finance the Council of Europe, whose parliamentary body the PACE is, could be used with higher efficiency in Russia," the document said.

"Restoring the powers of the Russian Federal Assembly delegation fully and the opportunity for its participation in developing and passing decisions in the Assembly are essential conditions," the statement said.
