U.S. journalist freed in Slovyansk - media

Mike Giglio, a reporter for the U.S. news-site Buzzfeed, and his interpreter, who were earlier detained by the local "self-defense forces", have been freed in Slovyansk, eastern Ukraine, the Donbass.ua news website reported on its Twitter page.

Giglio and his interpreter went missing in Slovyansk on May 2. It was announced later that the two had been detained by local protesters.

The Kiev authorities are currently conducting an operation to retake control of Slovyansk. The city has been encircled by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
