Only two out of 18 persons traveling by a Mil Mi-8 helicopter have survived a crash in the Murmansk region, the Interstate Aviation Committee reported.
"Reportedly, there were five crewmembers and 13 passengers onboard. The crash killed 16 persons and injured two," says a report posted on the committee website on Monday.
The helicopter fell to pieces and sank, the report said.
"Consistent with Russian air traffic laws, the Interstate Aviation Committee has set up a commission to investigate this aircraft accident," it continued.
The Mil Mi-8 helicopter crashed into the Munozero Lake in the Tersky district of the Murmansk region on Saturday. The Murmansk region mourns the crash victims on Monday.
