No grounds exist to doubt legitimacy of Syrian elections - Russian Foreign Ministry

No grounds exist to doubt the legitimacy of the presidential elections held in Syria despite their imperfection in terms of democratic standards, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said in Moscow on Thursday.

No grounds exist to doubt the legitimacy of the presidential elections held in Syria despite their imperfection in terms of democratic standards, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said in Moscow on Thursday.

"We do not have grounds to doubt the legitimacy of these elections," Lukashevich told Interfax.

"Amid these conditions they can not be considered 100% perfect from the viewpoint of democratic standards," the spokesman said.

"At least, the Russian monitors made the conclusion that they were held in a transparent atmosphere, despite all the difficult security conditions in the country, and registered a very high voter turnout," Lukashevich said.
