Flow of foreign tourists coming to Russia up 4 percent in Q1

Almost 260,000 foreign tourists visited Russia in Q1 2014, which is 4 percent up year-on-year, the Federal Tourism Agency posted a statement on its website citing the preliminary information of the Russian Federal State Statistics Service.

The top five of states with tourism-related entries includes China (32,100 people), Turkey (24,900), Germany (18,900), Israel (14,500), and Italy (11,800).

At the same time, the flow of tourists from many European countries declined significantly. For instance, the number of tourists from Germany and Spain dropped 20 percent in January-March 2014, from Finland 21 percent, and from France 12 percent. Meanwhile, the number of tourists arriving from South Korea gained 144 percent, which could be related to visa-free travel introduced on January 1, 2014.

The total number of foreign citizens, who came to Russia in Q1 2014, amounts to around 6.3 million people, which is 1 percent down year-on-year.
