A Russian cosmonaut will walk on the Moon in approximately 2030, Federal Space Agency (Roscosmos) first deputy head Alexander Ivanov said.
"Our program schedules a manned flight to the Moon sometime between 2030-2035," he said in a program aired by the Ekho Moskvy radio on Monday.
Preparations for a manned mission to the Moon will be made in accordance with the space program for the period until 2025, which stipulates the launch of automatic stations to the Moon by 2020 and the transportation of lunar soil samples to the Earth for testing by 2020-2021. A station will be deployed in a lunar orbit in a later period.
"A base on the lunar surface is a project under consideration," Ivanov said.
