The UN Security Council will hold an urgent meeting on Friday to discuss the events evolving in Ukraine, UN diplomats said.
As reported earlier, the United Kingdom has requested an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council to discuss the Malaysia Airlines flight crash in eastern Ukraine.
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon insisted on a full and transparent international inquiry into the plane crash, the UN News Center said earlier.
"I am closely monitoring the reports, along with the International Civil Aviation Organization, a United Nations agency. There is clearly a need for a full and transparent international investigation," he said.
Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 on flight Amsterdam (the Netherlands) - Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) carrying 298 people crashed in eastern Ukraine on Thursday. There were 154 citizens of the Netherlands, 43 of Malaysia, including 15 crewmembers and two infants, 27 of Australia, 12, including one infant) of Indonesia, nine of the United Kingdom, four of Germany, four of Belgium, three of Philippines, and one from Canada. Forty-one people are still unverified.
