At least 1,129 people killed in Ukraine since beginning of military operation - UN report

At least 1,129 people were killed and another 3,442 were wounded in the period from the beginning of the military operation in Ukraine in mid April and July 26, the UN said in a report, citing the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission and the World Health Organization.

At least 1,000 people were killed in the period between mid April and July 15, the report says.

The Office of the UN High Commissioner said the exact number of the casualties is difficult to determine.

According to the report, the aggravation of the situation in eastern Ukraine is negatively impacting the rest of the country. Specifically, over 100,000 refugees are in need of temporary accommodation in other regions of Ukraine.

The report also says the Ukrainian government estimated the physical damage from the conflict in the eastern part of the country at some 8 billion hryvni.
