The EU sanctions against Russia require a legal analysis as they appear to contradict the norms of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and Russia will seek their lifting, Russian permanent envoy to the EU Vladimir Chizhov said.
"The sanctions only appeared yesterday and they just take effect today. Naturally, they require a legal analysis in terms of the norms and rules of the WTO," Chizhov said on a television linkup connecting Moscow and Brussels.
"At first sight, they contradict these norms and rules, and in this case Russia will demand an appropriate probe in the WTO, seeking their lifting, without a delay," Chizhov said.
