The Courage Foundation dedicated to supporting former U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIS) employee and National Security Agency (NSA) contractor Edward Snowden has forwarded a letter to the Russian embassy to the U.S. to extend his asylum in Russia.
"Courage letter delivered this am to the Ru embassy in Washington asking to grant @Snowden asylum," the Courage Foundation said on Twitter.
Lawyer Anatoly Kucherena representing Snowden's interests in Russia had told Interfax earlier that Snowden had filed documents on extending his temporary asylum in Russia, but nothing was known at the moment about the Russian authorities' decision on the matter.
"We submitted the necessary documents beforehand. I am not aware so far of the decision," Kucherena said.
