South Ossetian President Leonid Tibilov met with members of his government and representatives of public organizations on Wednesday to discuss upcoming commemorations of the sixth anniversary of the war with Georgia.
"August 8 will mark the sixth anniversary of that tragic moment when the Georgian aggressors attacked South Ossetia. We must always remember the names of those who sacrificed their lives for the sake of our freedom, the freedom of our republic and the future of South Ossetia," Tibilov said.
Zhanna Zasseyeva, who heads the republic's commission in charge of preparing key social events, informed the South Ossetian leadership of the events due to take place on the night of August 7-8.
"The commemorations will start with a ceremony in the building of the Russian peacekeeping battalion of the Combined Peacekeeping Forces in South Ossetia. Afterwards, a wreath-laying ceremony will be held at the Museum of the Burned Souls in the village of Tbet," she said.
The center of the commemorations will be the village of Georgiyevskaya, where the Rachmaninoff Russian State Symphony Orchestra will perform.
A campaign under the slogan of Memory is Stronger than Time is due to take place on August 8 as well.
