Tefft expected in Moscow in early September - U.S. embassy

The new United States Ambassador to Russia, John Tefft, is due to be in Moscow by the middle of September.

The new United States Ambassador to Russia, John Tefft, is due to be in Moscow by the middle of September.

The embassy's new press attache, William Stevens, said on the Dozhd television channel that the new ambassador is expected to arrive by as early as mid-September. His candidacy was approved by the Senate and he will arrive in early or mid- September, he said.

Stevens said that the ambassador, who is looking forward to coming to Moscow, had told the Senate that these are very difficult times but there are issues the two countries can work on. Russia has accepted him as ambassador and will cooperate, Stevens said.
