Five State Duma deputies included in EU sanctions list

The European Union has expanded the sanctions list of private individuals who Brussels believes are associated with the events in Ukraine, the Official Journal of the European Union reported on Friday.

The European Union has expanded the sanctions list of private individuals who Brussels believes are associated with the events in Ukraine, the Official Journal of the European Union reported on Friday.

Among the people added to the list are State Duma deputies Svetlana Zhurova, Nikolai Levichev, Ivan Melnikov, Igor Lebedev, Alexander Babakov, and Alexander Zakharchenko, leader of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic.

A total of 24 people have been added to the list.

The U.S is expected to publish its expanded sanctions list later on Friday.

Russia's United Aircraft Corporation, Oboronprom and Uralvagonzavod also have been added to the sanctions list. The EU also prohibited European companies from supplying dual-use products to nine Russian defense plants, namely joint stock companies Sirius, Stankoinstrument, Chemcomposite, Kalashnikov, Tula Arms Plant, Machine Engineering Technologies Holding, High Precision Systems, Almaz-Antei and NPO Bazalt.
