Lavrov to lead Russian delegation at UN General Assembly

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will lead the Russian delegation at the high-level segment of the 69th United Nations General Assembly, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will lead the Russian delegation at the high-level segment of the 69th United Nations General Assembly, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

"The General Debate will be held as part of the session (its high-level segment) in New York on September 24 - October 7. The Russian delegation will be led by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov," the ministry said on its website on Tuesday.

"Against the backdrop of aggravating processes in international relations, at the current GA session the Russian delegation will pursue a line aimed at political and diplomatic resolution of conflicts, with due respect for peoples' rights to decide their own future, and at searching for collective answers to global and regional threats based on the principle of equal and indivisible security," the ministry said.

The current session has quite a broad agenda, containing 177 points, covering areas such as fostering economic growth and sustainable development, maintaining international peace and security, promoting human rights, disarmament, drug control, crime prevention, and countering international terrorism.

The 69th session of the UN GA opens on Tuesday.
