Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has signed a government decree simplifying the procedures for granting Russian citizenship to foreign businessmen and investors, the Cabinet reported on its website on Thursday.
"To draw foreign investment to the Russian economy, the simplified procedures for granting Russian citizenship applies to foreign businessmen and investors engaged in activities envisioned by the national classifier of types of economic activities, with some exceptions," the report says.
The report says that exceptions are made for the types of activities related to wholesale and retail trade, maintenance of automobiles and motorcycles, real estate operations employment and personnel selection, and also activities in the sphere of advertising, law and accounting.
"These exceptions are due to the absence of a need for more new participants in the relevant types of activities," the Russian government said.
