The outbreak of the Ebola virus in Western Africa was not caused artificially, Russia's Rospotrebnadzor director and chief sanitary inspector Anna Popova said.
"We have no information that the situation was provoked," she told reporters in Moscow on Friday.
"The situation developed according to natural laws. There are characteristics of an epidemiological process," she said.
The number of people who have contracted the virus in Western Africa now exceeds 8,000. Some 4,000 people have died.
