The media community has founded the first prize in the sphere of mass communications, naming it after former NSA contractor Edward Snowden.

"It is the first prize in the sphere of the Internet media, which determines and evaluates the main achievements in the modern media," the annotation to the prize posted on the website of the radio station Ekho Moskvy on Friday says.

The report says the organizers of the event are the non-commercial partnership Association of Electronic Communications (NP RAEK), the developer of Internet projects Notamedia, and Ekho Moskvy.

The founders of the prize reiterate that the range of possible nominees is very broad and comprises business and specialized electronic media and prominent media persons.

"Applications are accepted until October 20. The award ceremony will be held in November," the press release says.

The report does not state the amount of the prize and the location of the award ceremony.
