Zakharchenko elected as head of Donetsk People's Republic - self-proclaimed election officials

Acting prime minister of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic, Alexander Zakharchenko, has been elected as head of the DPR.

Acting prime minister of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic, Alexander Zakharchenko, has been elected as head of the DPR.

"With 100% of the ballots counted, candidate Alexander Zakharchenko has won more than 765,340 votes," he said.

"Novorossiya" Parliament Deputy Speaker Alexander Kofman came in second, and DPR Supreme Council member Yury Sivokonenko is in third place.

"Candidate Kofman has received 111,024 votes, and Sivokonenko 93,280 votes," Lyagin said.

The public organization Donetsk Republic has won "662,452 votes, and Free Donbas 306,892 votes," he said.

The Central Election Commission of the DPR will ask Kiev to recognize the results of the November 2 polls, Lyagin said.

"Kiev should come to terms with the fact that Donbas is no longer part of Ukraine. And it is Kiev's choice whether to recognize our elections or not," he added.
