Russian President Vladimir Putin and his U.S. counterpart Barack Obama had a brief talk during breaks in the APEC summit, Kremlin press secretary Dmitry Peskov said.

"The breaks were used several times, more than the two times which had been reported, for a brief conversation with President Obama. It was a short conversation but they touched upon bilateral relations, Syria, Ukraine and Iran," Peskov told the press.

Peskov did not say whether Putin and Obama might continue their communication in the bilateral format at the G20 summit in Australia. "I do not know about that," the press secretary said.

"Breaks in the summit also gave Putin the opportunity to have brief conversations with Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang and Indonesian President Joko Widodo," Peskov continued.

He said the conversations were mostly related to bilateral issues. The conversation with the Vietnamese president mentioned the earlier agreement to exchange visits.
