Moscow to get world's largest outdoor ice skating rink

The new rink will be equipped with Russian-made chilling machines used at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi

The world's largest outdoor artificial ice skating rink will open at Moscow's VDNKh exhibition center on November 28, the center's press service said.

The key-shaped rink will have an ice area of 20,510 square metres and will be 1,310 square metres larger than the previous record holder, FlevOnice in the Netherlands, the press service said.

The rink is expected to host up to 20,000 skaters daily.

The new rink will be equipped with Russian-made chilling machines used at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.

The press service said that 3,000 tons of sand and 4,100 cubic metres of water had been used to build the rank.
