Russia has pledged to support the UN Security Council's draft resolution on the formation of a Palestinian state, but does not rule out Washington's veto.
"Such a resolution could become a springboard for restarting the Palestinian-Israeli talks. This being so, Russia is ready to support this resolution when and if it is put to the vote," special presidential envoy, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov said in an interview with Interfax.
"However, the above-mentioned Palestinian draft got a hostile reception from Israel and the U.S. right away," he said. "It is not ruled out, therefore, that if the draft is put to the vote, the U.S. will use its veto right, which will only complicate the situation further. Palestine has said on many occasions that if the resolution is blocked in the UN Security Council it will seek membership in various international structures, including the International Criminal Court," Bogdanov said.
