In March 2014, Russia and India signed an agreement to supply 42 thousand of these shells to the republic.
India has agreed with Russia on setting up in the Republic the licensed production of armor-piercing ammunition «Mango» for 125 mm tank guns, which the T-90 tanks are equipped with, according to the official report of the Indian Ministry of Defence received by TASS on Tuesday.
«The arms factories management in Kolkata concluded an agreement with Rosoboronexport about licensed production of tank shells «Mango» in India, reported the agency adding that Russia would provide India with the production technology.
In March 2014, Russia and India signed an agreement to supply 42 thousand of these shells to the republic. How many more shells will be produced in India has not been specified.
The defense ministry explains the need of the above mentioned purchase by the acute shortage of tank ammunition in the Indian armed forces.
