Hollande demonstrates good timing in coming to Moscow - Pushkov

Head of the State Duma International Affairs Committee Alexei Pushkov believes that the president of France demonstrated good timing in deciding to stop over in Moscow for a dialogue with President Vladimir Putin.

"Hollande who remained in the shadow in relation to Ukraine so far stepped out and demonstrated his character - he came to Moscow in very good time to meet Putin," Pushkov twitted.

Presidents Francois Hollande and Vladimir Putin met at Moscow's Vnukovo-2 airport on Saturday. Among other things they discussed Ukraine.

Putin said after the meeting that both Russia and France want an immediate end to bloodshed in Ukraine.

"The situation there is tragic - we can see that people are still getting killed, - but I very much hope that very soon a definitive decision on a ceasefire will be made," Putin told reporters.

He said he and Hollande had had a detailed discussion of the subject at their meeting.

Putin also said Russia hopes that the blockade of Donetsk and Luhansk regions will be lifted in the nearest future permitting to restore the territorial integrity of Ukraine which Russia respects.

The president also voiced hope that the final decision on a ceasefire in Ukraine will be made shortly.
