"An agreement has been reached on holding a meeting between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry in Rome on Sunday, December 14. We presume that the priority at the 17th meeting this year will be given to Middle East affairs," Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov told Interfax on Saturday morning.

"The situation in this region is extremely complicated. A number of aspects of the developments there cause concerns, and there is a need for analyzing together how the situation could be affected to bolster stabilization processes. Our countries\' role in these efforts certainly cannot be overestimated, and the upcoming contact will be of special importance from this viewpoint," Ryabkov said.
