The Western sanctions imposed on Russia are aimed at changing the regime and destabilizing the situation in the country, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in an interview with the France 24 TV channel.

"I have very serious reasons to believe this is exactly so," Lavrov said in reply to a journalist's remark that some believe that the sanctions against Russia are aimed at destabilizing the situation in Russia and changing the regime there.

"Some politicians are not even hiding this," Lavrov added.
