Russia's Kalashnikov arms producer plans to start production of the new AK-12 assault rifle in the first quarter of 2015, a representative of the cimpany's press service told TASS Thursday.

Russia's Kalashnikov arms producer plans to start production of the new AK-12 assault rifle in the first quarter of 2015, a representative of the cimpany's press service told TASS Thursday. Natalya Tsyganova said the production will be launched as soon as a final answer from the Defense Ministry is received.

At the moment. a decision is pending on the new assault rifle for the Russian army. Deputy chairman of the Military-Industrial Commission board Oleg Bochkarev said earlier that the Kalashnikov AK-12 assault rifle has more chances to be brought into service than its main competitor, the AEK-971 submachine gun.
