Yakutia: Over $39 million allotted for Arctic development

The Arctic development budget topped 2.3 billion rubles ($39 million) in the 2014 Year of the Arctic, the Yakutian State Assembly (Il Tumen) press service reports.

The republic's budget contributed approximately 2 billion rubles ($34 million) to the project this year and fixed investment grew 188.3 percent year-on-year to over 2.3 billion rubles ($39 million) in 13 Arctic and northern regions, it said.

Earlier reports said Yakutia head Yegor Borisov pledged further support to Arctic regions of the republic. The regional program for the Arctic in the period until 2020 is obliged to solve problems of Yakutia's northern areas.
