More than 2.5 million Russians attended Orthodox Christmas services and religious processions in the early morning hours of Wednesday, the Russian Interior Ministry said.
Some 55,000 policemen, 1,500 Interior Ministry Forces servicemen, 3,700 private security guards, 5,100 voluntary people's patrol members and 5,300 members of Cossack societies were keeping the public peace on the sites of the festivities, the ministry said.
"The public peace, law and order were fully provided," says the ministry's report seen by Interfax on Wednesday.
