A modern long-range surface-to-air system S-400 Triumph will be provided to a surface-to-air missile regiment of the Air Defense and Missile Defense Command of the Aerospace Defense Troops located in the Moscow region in 2015, Colonel Alexei Zolotukhin, an official with the Aerospace Defense Troops, told Interfax-AVN on Saturday.
"Five surface-to-air regiments equipped with surface-to-air systems S-400 Triumph and anti-aircraft missile and gun systems Panzer-S will ensure the air defense of Moscow and the Central Industrial District in 2015," he said.
"The multi-service mid-range surface-to-air system Vityaz is currently being created to replace the old surface-to-air system S-300P," he said.
The main function of surface-to-air missile regiments of the Aerospace Defense Troops is air defense of Moscow and the Central Industrial District of Russia, protection of facilities of the top link of the state and military administration, industry and energy facilities, Armed Forces groups, and transport facilities from aerospace attacks by enemies.
