Ukrainian servicemen to join 11 international exercises in 2015 to learn NATO standards

The Ukrainian Armed Forces will participate in eleven international exercises this year, according to the Ukrainian defense minister's assistant Viktoria Kushnyr.

"In 2015 the Ukrainian Armed Forces will take part in eleven international exercises on land, sea and in the air," Kushnyr said at a press briefing in Kiev on Monday.

In her words, seven exercises will be held on foreign territories and four in Ukraine.

"The exercises will be the final stage of combat training of forces promoting their active use of standards of NATO member countries," the assistant said.

The Ukrainian-U.S. maritime exercises Sea Breeze and ground exercises Rapid Trident to take place on the Ukrainian territory will be the largest. The Trident Juncture exercises will be held abroad.

In addition, the Ukrainian Navy will participate in the Black Sea exercises Sea Shield and the Ukrainian Air Force will hold the Safe Skies exercises with Poland and join the EU exercises Common Challenge.

Ukraine's airborne troops will be involved in the Maple Arch exercises, engineering units will participate in the Light Avalanche exercises and signals troops will join the Combined Endeavor exercises, Kushnyr said.

The military police will be a part of the Rule of Law exercises in the Lvov region and military police training in Germany.

Consent of the Verkhovna Rada is required for holding joint exercises in Ukraine. The president shall submit a relevant bill to the parliament.
