Poll shows majority of Russian support Vladimir Putin

A public opinion poll has shown that over 70% of Russians are ready to vote for Vladimir Putin in presidential elections i the elections were to be held next Sunday featuring candidates of the 2012 elections.

A public opinion poll has shown that over 70% of Russians are ready to vote for Vladimir Putin in presidential elections i the elections were to be held next Sunday featuring candidates of the 2012 elections.

Five percent of the respondents would give their votes to LDPR leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky and 4% would vote for Communist Party leader Gennady Zyuganov.

The Public Opinion Foundation conducted the poll among 1,500 respondents in 43 Russian regions on January 10 and 11. People were asked whom they would support if presidential elections were held next Sunday. They were to choose among candidates who participated in the 2012 elections. The report on the poll was presented to TASS on Friday.

Seventy one percent of respondents said they would vote for Putin, 5% would vote for Zhirinovsky, 4% would support Zyuganov, 1% would give their vote to businessman and Civic Platform founder Mikhail Prokhorov.

Presidential elections will be held in Russia in 2018.
