The opposition emerging in Europe to plans of arming Ukraine inspires hope for settling the crisis in this country, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.
"The opposition to these plans capable of further worsening the Ukrainian people's tragedy, which is becoming stronger in Europe, is encouraging," Lavrov said at the Munich Security Conference on Saturday.
"Russia will further seek to establish peace in Ukraine. We consistently favor the ending of the combat actions, the withdrawal of heavy weapons, and the start of Kiev's direct negotiations with Donetsk and Lugansk," Lavrov said.
