Nicaragua supports Russia’s position on settlement of the conflict in Ukraine, the republic’s President Daniel Ortega said during a meeting with Russia’s Defence Minister Sergey Shoigu on Friday.

Nicaragua supports Russia’s position on settlement of the conflict in Ukraine, the republic’s President Daniel Ortega said during a meeting with Russia’s Defence Minister Sergey Shoigu on Friday.

"We support fully the initiatives of Russia’s President Vladimir Putin on settlement of the conflict in Ukraine," the president said adding he pays special attention to the visit of the Russian minister and expressed confidence in further development of cooperation between Russia and Nicaragua in sciences, technique and in other spheres.

During the meeting, Nicaragua’s president spoke about the destructive role of the US in influencing problems of the global policies.

"We can see and we are aware the US are creating havoc across the world. Unrest begins wherever the US is," he said.

At the meeting, the Russian minister told the president about the changes in the Russian Armed Forces.

The president thanked the minister for his major input in development of friendly relations between Russia and Nicaragua, including in development of the military and technical cooperation. The parties confirmed similar positions on the events in Ukraine, and on other issues of the global and regional policies.
