Uralvagonzavod (UVZ) is about to ship the first consignment of "Armata" new-generation tanks to the Russian army, says Oleg Siyenko, the company director.
"The first tanks are being readied for delivery to the army," he told reporters at an arms exhibition in Abu Dhabi on Sunday.
The handover will be held "in the very near future," he said.
These tanks will be taking part in the V-day military parade in the Red Square on May 9, he said.
The advanced Armata tank will be equipped with a special blend of steel resistant to extremely low temperatures. The Russian Defense Ministry has not openly declared its intention to locate the tanks in the Arctic, though with competition for the area’s mineral resources heating up, Russia has a clear interest in developing a military presence there.
