Putin’s spokesman: International ties to see 'renaissance' when west starts to respect Russian interests

Moscow and the West will be able to restore their productive relations only if there is respect for Russian national interests, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said in an interview with CNN.

Moscow and the West will be able to restore their productive relations only if there is respect for Russian national interests, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said in an interview with CNN.

Parts of the interview were posted on the website of the RT television station.

Peskov assessed the stance taken by Russia as quite understandable, very honest, open and sufficiently firm.

And when this position is treated with understanding, all parties will be happy to resume their cooperation in order to be able to tackle day-to-day problems, including terrorism, he said.

Cooperation between different countries is needed in order to look for solutions to international problems, Peskov said.

The only thing Russia wants is to see its national interests and the right to sovereignty being treated with all due respect, Peskov said.

When this happens, international relations will experience a "renaissance", he said.
