One of the basic steps, that must be performed before launching a nuclear reactor – the so-called “hot break-in”, has been started on the second unit of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant, being built with Russian assistance, announced the press service of Russia’s leading unified engineering company NIAEP JSC – Atmostroyeksport CJSC (NIAEP-ASE).
The “hot break-in” is a comprehensive check of all systems and equipment before the physical start-up of the unit. In fact, this is the last stage of testing before the loading of nuclear fuel into the reactor.
The results of the “hot break-in” will confirm the proper operations of the technological systems and equipment, as well as process control systems – electrical equipment of the second unit and general systems.
