The Asia-Pacific Region is becoming an ever more important and influential region of the world for building a new edifice of security and cooperation, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said after talks with his Cambodian counterpart Hor Namhong.
"Russia and Cambodia have agreed to coordinate efforts at international negotiating sites in the Asia-Pacific Region," Lavrov said. "We are interested in building a new architecture of security and cooperation in this ever more influential region. We plan to do so within the framework of East Asian summits. Russia’s initiative for beginning work on the framework of principles of a new regional architecture has been considered since 2013."
Lavrov recalled that "there have been three rounds of consultations."
"We have received an invitation to hold a fourth round in Cambodia," Lavrov said. "We are hoping that this work will make it possible to move towards a full-fledged multilateral treaty on security and cooperation in Europe."
