Russian Ambassador to the UK Alexander Yakovenko said that Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Philip Hammond's statements made in London on Tuesday confirm that intelligence services are the spiritual home of British political elite.
"Hammond's remarks prove John Le Carre was right: intelligence services are the spiritual home of British political elite," Yakovenko wrote on Twitter on Tuesday.
Hammond said earlier at the Royal United Services Institute, according to media reports, that criticism of intelligence services must be stopped and intelligence agencies' powers to counter global threats should be enhanced.
Hammond, who oversees special service work, said that Russia could become a major threat to Britain's security.
