The diesel-electric ship Vasily Golovnin, operated by the Far Eastern Shipping Company (Fesco), flagship of the Fesco Transportation Group, has completed work under a project for Argentina's Defense Ministry to supply cargo to Argentine research bases in Antarctica.

During the 38-day voyage, the ship made 32 calls on bases, delivering about 8,500 tonnes of cargo with the help of two helicopters and self-propelled barges, the company said. The ship delivered general cargo, food and diesel fuel, and shipped out consumer and industrial waste from the bases.

During the 2015 navigation season the Vasily Golovnin visited 11 Argentine bases, and made friendly calls on the bases of Russia, Peru, Poland, Brazil and Spain.

The ship completed its work at the beginning of March at the Russian station Bellinsgauzen, which it visited for the first time in the several years it has been operating in the Antarctic.
