The Defence Acquisition Council on Saturday approved modernisation of the helicopters in Russia. Six helicopters to get new sensor, while the focus with the other four is on overhauling the engines.

The Kamov Ka-28 is an export version of Kamov Ka-27PL. It entered service with the Indian Navy in the mid-80s. Many of these helicopters are in need of upgrade.

In February, the head of the JSC "Russian helicopters" Alexander Mikheev said they are concerned about serviceability and readiness of more than 300 Ka and Mi helicopters operating in India. Mikheev said the company was ready to offer India modernisation programs.
